Admission Requirements
All prospective students applying for the MSHI Healthcare Analytics program must meet the following criteria for admission:
Education:
- A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university in biological, chemical, computer, management information sciences, or a related field.
- International students must submit equivalent degrees and additional documentation if applicable.
GPA:
- Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
Documents:
- Official transcripts.
- Resume.
- Two professional or academic letters of recommendation.
- Statement of Purpose.
Optional:
- GRE, MCAT, VAT scores, or evidence of substantial health informatics experience to enhance an application.
Certificates Only:
- Certificate Departmental Approval Form.

A Master of Science in Health Informatics with a concentration in Healthcare Analytics provides a working knowledge of the tools necessary to shape the collection, management, analysis, reporting and sharing of healthcare data and information to support decision-making.
- Think analytically, implement creative problem-solving and encourage organizational strategists to make data-driven decisions.
- Identify sources of healthcare data, and structure, clean and manipulate that for stakeholders.
- Manage data via relational database systems and the structured query language (SQL); understand data warehousing, online analytical processing, data quality issues, emerging cloud databases and data mining techniques.

- Develop skills in data mining, data preparation, data visualization, descriptive statistics, healthcare data, predictive analytics, SAS Studio, SAS Visual Analytics and SAS Viya.
- Apply analytical thinking, creative problem-solving and organizational strategies to support data-driven decision making.
- Assess the functions, limitations, opportunities and challenges of information technology within the healthcare environment.

***The Clinical Informatics Practice Pathway expires in 2025. Beginning in 2026, the exam will be available only for those physicians who have completed an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Clinical Informatics. This subspecialty certifying exam will be given annually throughout this period.
****CAPM® seekers will need to enroll in HIM6664-Healthcare Project Management, an elective in the MSHI Healthcare Analytics degree track in order to gain knowledge relevant to the certification exam.
